August 2024
President’s Report
I always associate August with wrapping up and preparing for the new. Perhaps this comes from parenting—we would always cram in the last summer vacations, start school shopping (supplies and clothes) and begin practicing reasonable bedtimes and wake-up times. I’m long past those days, yet I still tend to work on this calendar programming.
As for AMUG, we are finalizing all contracts/payments from the AMUG 2024 conference and diving straight into our new ones for AMUG 2025. As I mentioned last month, our committees are formed for our next conference, and some are already beginning their regular cadence of meetings. I am so thankful for the commitment from our members to help drive the activities that are integral to a successful conference!
Are you ready for the busy conference season coming up in 2025? Of course, we all know the options for where to invest your time and money as they relate to conference/show participation are plentiful. AMUG remains committed to developing a conference filled with relevant education, meaningful connections, abundant networking opportunities, and friendly exchanges. We want to ensure we communicate important information to attendees, sponsors and exhibitors.
We’ve got some important dates already identified:
- Attendee/sponsor registration opens September 3, 2024, at 9 am EDT
- Attendee early-bird registration ends December 13, 2024 (reduced rate)
- Hotel reservations can be made starting September 3, 2024, at the Hilton Chicago
- Sponsor/exhibitor deposit due October 11, 2024
- Call for speakers opens September 19, 2024
More updates will come, so keep checking our social media and website. As always, if you wish to share a conversation, ask a question, or express a concern, my email is president@amug.com. I want to hear from you.
With joy,
Shannon VanDeren

AMUG 2025: Exciting Changes Ahead!
We’re thrilled to announce that registration for AMUG 2025 opens on September 3rd! Building upon the success of last year’s event, we’ve carefully listened to our valued sponsors and exhibitors, and we’re excited to implement several enhancements to make your experience even better.
As a testament to AMUG’s standing as the premier technical conference in the AM industry, we welcomed members from 28 countries last year. With most attendees holding roles such as engineers, technicians, program managers, and engineering managers, AMUG continues to be the go-to platform for industry professionals.
On September 3, AMUG will be accepting sponsor/exhibitor registrations.
To foster a more productive and engaging AMUGexpo experience, we’ve adjusted the expo hours. Additionally, we’re introducing one-day CEO passes for sponsors’ and exhibitors’ top-level executives’ access to the AMUGexpo for networking and exploration of the latest advancements in AM.
We understand the importance of supporting businesses of all sizes. That’s why we’ve introduced new pricing options for exhibitors, making it more accessible for smaller companies to participate.
We can’t wait to welcome you back to AMUG 2025! Stay tuned for more exciting announcements and updates.
AMUG 2025 Call for Speakers Opens on September 19
The AMUG Conference agenda has two sections: AMUG technical tracks and Diamond/Platinum Sponsor tracks. This upcoming call for speakers is specifically for the AMUG technical tracks, focusing on providing training and educational talks, hands-on workshops, and panel discussions.
Sessions within these AMUG tracks are intended to be led by users of AM technology. If you are an OEM, please consider giving one of your users the opportunity to share their knowledge and expertise. Commercial presentations and sales pitches will be rejected.
AMUG call for speakers opens September 19.
New for 2025 is a track dedicated to workshops and hands-on training events. This track focuses on hands-on and interactive sessions where users can gain firsthand experience with additive technologies. By making workshops a dedicated track, there will always be a room devoted to these activities throughout the conference. AMUG prides itself on the amount of hands-on activity included with conference registration, and 2025 is looking to add even more!
When responding to the Call for Speakers, we ask interested presenters to contact the Track Leader Committee Co-Chairs, Alex Roschli and Nate Schumacher, at trackleader@amug.com. Based on your topic, they will put you in contact with the appropriate track leader, who will continue to work with you to ensure your proposed session will be valuable to the AMUG members.

Todd Grimm’s Take: WOW! RAPID + TCT 2024
“A fantastic event packed with insights to take AM to the next level.”
Excerpt from Todd Grimm’s blog post:
“Awesome” is the word I chose to sum up the RAPID + TCT event. This was my 30th visit, and it was undoubtedly the best one yet. From all perspectives, the event surpassed my expectations and outdid previous years. From the presentations to the casual conversations and from the show floor to the scheduled activities, everything was exceptional.
But I feel that the intangible element, the vibe, is what truly took RAPID + TCT to the next level. Despite the economic challenges in AM, the venue was filled with vibrance and enthusiasm balanced by realism and pragmatism rather than hype and ignorant exuberance.
SME and the Rapid News Group went above and beyond to ensure that this was a fantastic event. Both exhibitors and attendees took full advantage of the hospitality, planning and execution to contribute in ways that elevated the experience.
Hollywood Showcase, one of many aspects that made RAPID + TCT a ‘wow’ event.
