October 2026

AMUG 2027 is taking shape as our board, committees, and volunteers work through the plans for Atlantic City. Thank you to everyone putting time and effort into bringing the conference together. As the program develops, we’re looking to our community to help shape it by sharing the experiences, lessons, and ideas that other AM users can learn from.

Have you solved a tough problem, developed a new application, or learned a lesson that could help another user? Consider sharing it at AMUG. The call for speakers is open through October 21 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Those practical experiences and honest conversations are what make this conference valuable.

Our Start-up Launchpad is returning to the AMUGexpo, giving emerging companies a place to share fresh ideas and connect directly with users. If you’re part of a start-up, or know one with something exciting to bring to the AM community, encourage them to apply.

And don’t wait to make your own plans! Join us March 14–18, 2027, at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City. Complete your conference registration and book your hotel through the official AMUG room block by December 11 to qualify for a complimentary suite-upgrade drawing. We select one eligible attendee each month through the end of early-bird registration, so completing both sooner gives you more chances to win.

The conference is coming together. Bring your experience, your questions, and your ideas, and help make AMUG 2027 a great week of learning and connection.

My First-Timer AMUG Conference Experience

Attending an AMUG Conference for the first time in 2026 was an eye-opening experience. Coming from a more plastics-focused 3D printing background, I was excited to explore technologies and applications that were new to me. From metal AM to plastic technologies I hadn’t previously worked with, the opportunity to expand my knowledge across the industry was incredibly valuable.

What truly sets AMUG Conferences apart from other industry shows is the depth of knowledge and information shared among attendees. Many discussions went beyond showcasing technology and focused on how different processes work, where they apply best, and how they are helping transform industries. The emphasis on real-world applications and shared experiences made the conversations especially meaningful.

Joe Redmond joined the AMUG team just months after his first AMUG Conference experience.

The sessions were engaging, interactive, and focused on practical knowledge that attendees could take back and apply. I greatly appreciated being able to discuss a topic in a collaborative environment and explore how it impacts the industry as a whole.

One of the biggest highlights for me was sitting down with industry leaders and professionals across the AM landscape. Learning how different technologies are used today, hearing where companies see the industry heading, and exchanging ideas gave me a perspective you simply cannot get from a traditional trade show.

The AMUG New Member Committee really helped me prepare and stay on task throughout the week. The unique schedule and evening programming differed from what I was used to, but the committee (along with the AMUG app) made it much easier to stay organized and on track.

Overall, my first AMUG experience was both educational and rewarding. I left with a much broader understanding of AM, new industry connections, and an even greater appreciation for the knowledge-sharing culture that makes AMUG unique. I’m looking forward to returning, and I intend to provide the same friendly support and guidance to first-time attendees.

Three Decades of AM and the Value of Exchange

After a career spanning three decades in AM, Dieter Schwarze retired last year. The AMUG International Committee asked him to reflect on his journey, the evolution of the AM industry, and what he sees ahead.

Dieter described a market shaped by constant change and shifting attention, noting how regional differences play out against shared global priorities. One thing he stressed remains constant: the need for collaboration. He pointed to AMUG as a prime example, underscoring the importance of in-person exchange in tackling industry challenges and turning new AM innovations into reality.

General Motors Scales 3D-Printed Tooling with Stratasys

General Motors (GM) team members are leveraging Stratasys FDM® AM solutions to rapidly produce tooling, fixtures, jigs, factory aids, and end-use parts, with facilities reporting significant savings.

Go behind the scenes at GM to see how teams are using Stratasys industrial 3D printing to create safer, more ergonomic production tools—reducing costs, avoiding delays, and sharing proven solutions across their manufacturing network.

GM evaluates AM as an operational capability: one that helps plant teams solve problems quickly and then share proven solutions wherever they can create value. By standardizing equipment, materials, and design practices, GM can reduce duplicated effort and extend the impact of each validated application.

Make Better Manufacturing Decisions with Sinter-based AM

Which parts are good candidates? Which process fits the application? And what will it take to achieve the required quality at a viable cost?

In the latest issue of PIM International, Stefan Joens offers a practical guide to evaluating sinter-based metal AM, from identifying suitable applications to understanding the design, material, and production choices that influence success.

Drawing on decades of industrial experience, he shares lessons from successful and unsuccessful projects and explains why successful production depends on much more than the printing stage.

For designers, engineers and AM users, the article provides useful guidance on recognizing suitable opportunities, understanding process limitations, and assessing the complete route to a finished part.

Mass Production with AM: What Does Each Fleet Strategy Entail for Vertically Integrated Businesses?

OECHSLER runs series production across sites in Germany and China on industrial 3D printing platforms, while Slant 3D runs automated 3D printer fleets designed to produce tens of thousands of parts per week at cost parity with injection molding.

Both are manufacturing at volume. Both are shipping products today. Yet, they have different understandings of mass production. They deal with different production economics, different challenges, and different demands.

For vertically integrated businesses that rely on AM, it’s crucial to understand what it takes to build a (consumer) business on AM: how demand is captured, how a digital fit process replaces a retail one, and, if possible, what the supply chain and sustainability case looks like.

Together, leaders from these companies will address these questions during the next Additive Talks session on October 28.

Building Profiles in the Additive Print Services Market–Market Research Beyond AI Scraping

In case you haven’t heard, Additive Manufacturing Research (AM Research) is tackling a new research project to model the AM services market because service providers are really what’s moving the AM market in the current age of supply chain shakeups and critical, fast-moving manufacturing initiatives in defense, energy, and aerospace.

You can read all about the ideas and trends behind our upcoming AM service market report and model building in our first article here.

With AI becoming a widely used tool for what we call directional research, we promised to give our readers and customers a look under the hood of our research techniques in the additive market to show that there’s a lot more to consider when strategizing around additive markets than just an AI scrape. In this article, we’ll walk through some of the key modeling components our new services market model is built on, especially the competitor profiles that drive the model. The very first profile we’re building out as we develop the model is one you’ll know well.

Introducing AdditiveIQ

This year, TCT closed the doors on its final TCT 3Sixty event in the UK. After 30 years, through every stage of AM’s evolution—from rapid prototyping through the consumer boom to industrialized production—it is time for something new.

Introducing AdditiveIQ, an experience by TCT.

AdditiveIQ isn’t a trade show, and it isn’t a standard conference. It’s an exclusive, invitation-only networking retreat for senior engineers and leaders who are moving additive into qualified, at-scale production. Two nights at a Windsor estate, an all-inclusive program designed around networking and information exchange, shaped by an advisory committee from JLR, UK Ministry of Defence, AMRC, MTC, Sartorius, and Hubbell, with support from an intentionally small group of commercial partners. The only way to access this intel is to be in the room.

Places are by invitation; request yours here. Or get in touch to discuss your interest in partnering.
